Citizen group calls on Cuomo to squelch Lake Ontario wind power project

Town officials said last month they think a giant wind power project proposed for Somerset and Yates is dead, but the developer won’t confirm that, so residents who oppose the project are continuing their fight.

Friday, Save Ontario Shores, a local anti-wind power group, released a letter calling on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to get Apex Clean Energy to admit the Lighthouse Wind project’s demise.

“As citizens and taxpayers, we respectfully ask that you work to help us have a new beginning and put the saga of Lighthouse Wind behind us,” SOS President Pamela Atwater wrote.

Apex closed its Barker office last month and announced it won’t submit its application this year, the latest delay in filing for a project that was announced in 2014.

Apex said the project offers significant economic benefits and it would provide scheduling information as it becomes available.

“We look forward to identifying the proper time to advance those benefits to the region,” a company statement said.
