Llandrindod Wells: Lesley Griffiths AM avoids Hendy Wind Farm protesters outside Metropole Hotel

Around 50 wind farm protesters turned up outside the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells on Thursday, November 1; awaiting the arrival of Lesley Griffiths AM, who has controversially overturned decisions made by the county council to allow the Hendy Wind Farm to be built.
The Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Planning and Rural Affairs was speaking at the Powys hotel as part of a conference with the National Union of Farmers. The campaigners saw this as the perfect moment to get their voices heard.
Jane McDonnell, the organiser behind the protest, said: “It went well! About 50 or so protesters turned up.
“Many passing motorists hooted their car horns at us in support, which was great.”
However, the minister avoided confronting the group protesters and instead agreed to meet with two of the campaigners in a private hotel room, which they did.
The Powys Planning Committee and a planning inspector had previously decided against the building of the seven wind turbines.
The turbines will be located between Penybont and Llandegley and they could rise to be 110m high.
Ms McDonnell said that Lesley Griffith’s decision “overturns local democracy”.
“This cannot be allowed to happen. It’s not only about it being a beautiful area, it’s about undermining local people,” she said.
