A new wind turbine ordinance is being drafted in Bay County’s Beaver Township. The Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing for 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Zion Lutheran School gym at 1556 Seidlers Road. Township Supervisor Steve Gray said the 17-page document will address setbacks from homes and property lines plus lighting along with any future decommissioning of sites.
Gray said DTE Energy has been working since last summer signing up numerous property owners to lease agreements not only in Beaver Township, but also Fraser, Garfield, Kawkawlin, Monitor and Williams Townships. He explained the Planning Commission could vote to send the ordinance proposal on to Township trustees for consideration at their May 14 meeting. The board could then approve it as drafted, amend it and approve it, or send it back to Planning Commissioners and request they make changes.
