Wind turbine plan overturned on appeal

Welsh Government planning inspectors have overturned a Powys County Council decision to refuse permission for a 36.6-metre wind turbine near Llanidloes.

Tudor Jones’ application for the turbine at Glyn Farm, Van, was refused in October last year, with issues raised regarding the effect of the development on the character of the landscape, the visual amenity and cultural heritage of the area.

But Mr Jones has now been granted permission to construct the turbine, which will be located between the B4518 and the Clywedog River and approximately 1.6 miles to the south east of the Clywedog Reservoir, following an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate for Wales.

Although the site does not lie within any national or local landscape designations, it is within the Clywedog Valley Landscape of Special Historic Interest, which features scheduled ancient monuments and listed buildings.

In her decision notice, dated 17 October, the planning inspector Kay Sheffield, who visited the site on 21 September, said: “I have found that the development would not have an unacceptably adverse effect on landscape character or visual amenity.”
