Meaford is supporting a call from the Multi-Municipal Wind Turbine Working Group to have the Province cancel any further requests for wind turbine facilities in Ontario.
Deputy Mayor Harley Greenfield said he presented the resolution because of a recent decision to allow a wind farm near Collingwood Airport. Greenfield said he was alarmed at the decision and wanted something done to stop further.
Greenfield said he modelled his resolution on a draft resolution drawn up by the Multi-Municipal Wind Turbine Working Group. That Working Group represents 13 municipalities in Grey, Bruce and Perth Counties.
The purpose of the Working Group is to pressure the provincial government to make sure wind turbines set up in their municipality are safe.
Greenfield and Councillor Jaden Calvert, who seconded the resolution, represent Meaford on the Working Group.
