A purposed wind turbine project is voted down by the Town of Yates after a long debate.
The Lighthouse Wind project purposed by Apex Clean Energy has been lobbying the idea to erect 71 wind turbines in Yates and Somerset. The Town Board voted unanimously in opposition to the construction of the turbines at a meeting last night under the new leadership of Town Supervisor James Simon who has been against the project from the beginning.
The height of the wind turbines which has been reported as high as 620 feet has Senator Robert Ortt and Congressman Chris Collins concerned that the turbines could effect air missions from Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. The decision comes on the heels of Niagara and Orleans County voting down similar proposals.
