Moratorium on the horizon for wind energy in Fayette County

WEST UNION – The Fayette County Board of Supervisors will be acting on setting a date for a public hearing on a moratorium on Commercial Wind Energy when they meet on Monday, Nov. 9, at the Fayette County Courthouse in West Union. If a moratorium was set, the construction of any new wind turbines could not start until the county comes up with specific rules and regulations concerning them.

Fayette County Environmental Health Administrator Catherine Miller said the County is trying to get something specific in place when it comes to wind energy regulation. The rules and regulations concerning the large wind turbines used to create power recently came into the forefront when a large group of citizens in Fairbank protested the construction of three large wind turbines by Mason Wind LLC. The project is set to start immediately.
