New group formed to oppose wind farm plan at Chapman Ranch

CORPUS CHRISTI – A new group has been created to speak out against the wind farm in Chapman Ranch. The group is called Citizens for Responsible Growth. Members say the proposed wind farm in Chapman Ranch is bad economics.

“The area is growing, and it will continue to grow unless the turbines are constructed,” said Citizens for Responsible Growth Spokesman Shane Torno.

Shane Torno says his group opposes the wind farm because of its location. He showed us a map of where the city is growing and says the wind farm will stop any expansion in its tracks.

“We don’t wanna come in here and see anything that would hamper that growth in any way, shape, or form and I think that this would have a tremendous negative impact on that growth,” said Nueces County Commissioner Mike Pusley.

The county has already gone on record opposing the wind farm. In fact, Commissioner Pusley has joined the new group.

“So I will support their efforts to the best of my ability as their representative at the county commissioner level uh and however else that I can do that,” said Commissioner Pusley.

The company that wants to build the wind farm, APEX, says there are no definitive studies showing the project will hurt economic growth. Like everyone else, APEX is waiting to see if the city will annex part of the southside property to try and block the wind farm’s construction.
