Villagers protest against Suzlon wind power project

The locals of Padubidri staged protest against Suzlon Company for creating problems in the village, on Wednesday August 22.
The residents of Padubidri, Avaralu, Abbedi, Palimar and Nandikoor joined together at the proposed site of Suzlon Company and urged to restore the infrastructural facilities damaged by them.
The protestors demanded Suzlon authorities to repair the extensively damaged road between Avaralu and Matti at the earliest. Moreover they demanded to stall the encroachment of land and stop oppressing the locals besiding asking explanation for encroaching Kanchinadka school grounds.
The protestors further demanded to remove the soil that has covered the nearby agricultural fields owing to the works of Suzlon and offer employment to the locals. Later a memorandum was submitted to Halim and Ashok Shetty, officers of Suzlon. The copies of the memorandum were also posted to the chief minister, KIADB, Udupi Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat, Padubidri and Palimar Gram Panchayat and Superintendent of Police.
Responding to the memorandum, Halim said that, preference would be given for locals while offering employment and the entire infrastructure damaged by Suzlon will be repaired at the earliest.
The protest was led by Laxman Shetty, president, Nandikoor Jana Jagruti Samiti, JD (S) district president Deviprasad Shetty, Palimar Panchayat president Madhukar Suvarna, Zilla Panchayat member Shashikant Padubidri, Vasudev Rao, Kutty Shetty, Karunakar and others.
