Oberon Council in the will be closely examining the environmental impact statement for the proposed windfarm at Paling Yards near Oberon in the New South Wales Central West.
The windfarm will cost more than $280 million to build and will feature 55 wind turbines that will be 175 metres tall.
The project’s environmental impact statement has been released for public comment and it says the windfarm’s noise and visual impact will be minimal.
Oberon Mayor John McMahon says council will begin examining the statement on Monday.
“My main concerns will be the visual impact on neighbours and also the noise impact on neighbours,” Councillor McMahon said.
“I’ve got to be assured that this development doesn’t have a detrimental affect on next-door neighbours.”
The statement says the Oberon community will benefit from the construction of a substantial windfarm at Paling Yards.
The company behind the development, Union Fenosa Wind Australia, says 65 jobs will be created to build the facility and 11 people will be employed to maintain the windfarm.
Oberon Mayor John McMahon acknowledges there could be benefits for the region.
“There’d be quite a fair few people employed in the construction stage of it so I guess the closest place for them to live would be in Oberon to stay,” Councillor McMahon said.
“So there’d be a boost in a way of accomodation and that type of thing.”
The ABC has contacted Union Fenosa Wind Australia for comment.
