MP says ACT using Monaro as ‘junkyard’ for renewable energy source

The Member for the New South Wales south east seat of Monaro has accused the ACT Government of using the region as a junkyard to meet its renewable energy target.
John Barilaro has slammed the territory’s plan to source energy from solar and wind-farms in New South Wales in a bid to reach a 90 per cent green energy target by 2020.
Mr Barilaro says he is opposed to wind-farms in general because they rely heavily on Government subsidies and divide communities.
He says wind-farms are a controversial topic on the Monaro, and if the ACT wants them, it should put the facilities on its side of the border.
“For the ACT to just make a, what I would believe is an irresponsible and self-indulgent energy policy that actually involves windfarms being put on the New South Wales side of the border, as I say you know, the ACT’s junkyard, now it’s irresponsible and I don’t support it,” Mr Barilaro said.
