Turbines and floods

Baroness Young of the Environment Agency blames the recent devastating floods on more concrete being laid in recent years.
The catchment areas for the rivers Severn and Wye are in the Cambrian Mountains, around Plynlimon.
It doesn’t therefore seem to make much sense to develop extensive road networks, gigantic holes filled with concrete and the associated infrastructure for wind power stations on these uplands.
Nothing should be done to jeopardise the absorptive capacity of our uplands.
Roads and other landscaping can lead to disruption to hydrology, damage to peat (which acts like a sponge) and increased run off, resulting in more uncontrolled and swift river rises, and more downstream flooding.
The Welsh Assembly Government would be wise to initiate an urgent review of TAN8, in the light of recent events, and before the Forestry Commission awards contracts to the foreign wind developers.
