MP Alan Duncan urges Melton residents to come up with new objections to wind turbine plan

A Leicestershire MP Alan Duncan has urged constituents to again voice their objections to plans for a wind turbine.

An application for a single turbine in Somerby was approved on January 30 by Melton Borough Council’s planning committee, despite strong local objection.

The application, by Melton borough councillor Mark Barnes, is for a 200ft (61m) wind turbine generator.

Although the application was approved, it emerged during the hearing no notification had been published in the local press, amounting to a technical procedural infringement.

The required advert was subsequently printed.

Opponents now have until February 27 to submit further objections, which could result in the application going back to the committee.

The Rutland and Melton MP said: “Residents, justifiably angry at the decision to approve this application, now have another bite at the cherry. I encourage those who submitted objections the first time around to do so again.

“The crucial point, though, is that the decision can only be revisited if new issues are raised.

“A rehash of the old arguments will not do it.

“I am clear that the council got this one 100 per cent wrong.

“The only way to reverse this, though, is to come up with fresh, compelling planning considerations.”
