Group pledges to fight windfarm

A campaign against plans for a wind farm on the South Cheshire border is being stepped up after a bid for seven turbines was submitted.
Energy firm Nuon Renewables has applied for the wind farm at Woore. But objectors say the scheme would dominate the skyline at Audlem, Buerton and Bridgemere.
They say the turbines would be as high as St Paul’s Cathedral and could lead to health problems, noise pollution and slash the value of their homes.
A group called VORTEX – Veto On Rural Turbine Expansion – is now strengthening its campaign to stop the plans by visiting Nantwich villages in its own battle wagon.
Various walks and talks are being held, starting this Sunday at Bearstone Farm and also a VORTEX blimp will fly around the site at the approximate 105-metre height of the proposed turbines.
VORTEX member Steve Ellsmoor, of Dorrington Hall Farm at Woore, said: “Our main issue is the effect this will have on the landscape here. The Woore Moraine, which sits above Audlem and Buerton, is highly unique and a nationally recognised geological feature. It would be completely destroyed by a wind farm.”
Parish councillors at Audlem have already added their weight to the campaign and chairman Richard Furber believes the wind farm would be a blot on the landscape.
He added: “If we can see Jodrell Bank from Audlem, then we will most certainly see this wind farm. I will be backing VORTEX.”
Nuon says up to 27,400 tonnes of CO2 will be saved compared to a coal-fired power station.
Its spokesman Al Hanagan said an application had been submitted but it was waiting for North Shropshire District Council to validate it which the council say is likely to be at the end of this week. A 21-day consultation period will then begin.
