Green light for sub-station

Developers building a controversial power sub-station close to two villages have been given permission to create a new school car park, in the hope of easing the effects of construction traffic.

Despite strong opposition, London Array was last year granted permission on appeal to build the sub-station at Cleve Hill, in Graveney, as part of a £1.5 billion scheme incorporating 270 wind turbines off the Thanet coast. On Thursday, Swale Council’s planning committee approved the company’s plans for a car park and school drop-off zone as part of a series of proposed “traffic mitigation” measures. It is hoped these will reduce the impact of construction vehicles travelling through both Graveney and Goodnestone. The car park for parents with children at Graveney Primary School will be created next to the railway and Wheelwrights Cottage in Head Hill Road. New trees will be planted and lighting will be installed.
