The company planning to build a wind farm at Taralga north of Goulburn next year have rejected claims they applied for a modification to their project without telling the village about it.
Colin Liebmann from RES Southern Cross has told IBN News the company fully consulted Taralga about what they wanted to do.
“An information sheet was distributed to all residents of Taralga and within proximity to the windfarm site,” he said.
“300 were distributed to the addresses to which we have sent all previous newsletters and 50 additional
copies were place in the Post Office for distribution. This advice listed the details of the modification and was distributed on 18th May 2007, seven months in advance of lodgement of the application for the modification.”
Mr Liebmann also said notices had been posted in the Taralga Post Office and at Upper Lachlan Council offices in May 2007.
“These included poster size photomontages which provide an accurate image of the appearance of the modified wind turbines in comparison to the original proposal of 110m tip height,” he said.
“As a result of these advices we received a number of calls and correspondence from residents. We responded to all communications which were received.”
He said claims that RES Southern Cross has inadequately consulted on the modification application – to increase the height of their turbines – are untrue.
Goulburn MP Pru Goward said last month that residents were only told about the change on January 31, giving them just two weeks to object to the formal proposal.
The Taralga Landscape Guardians residents group alleged the Department knew about the proposed modification in November 2007, and deliberately kept those details from them.
