DAYTON – Portland General Electric has started ground work on the Tucannon River Wind Farm on 20,000 acres near Dayton.
The $500 million project is expected to provide enough power for about 84,000 western Oregon homes. The wind farm will have a capacity of 267 megawatts, but given the variability of wind power, is expected to produce about 101 average megawatts.
The project is creating 300 construction jobs and then will provide 18 full-time jobs when operation starts in 2015.
Tucannon River is Portland General Electric’s second fully owned and operated wind farm.
