Hundreds spell out protest

(Port Elgin ) – Chilly temperatures didn’t deter more than 200 people from coming out to protest the operation of the C-A-W’s wind turbine at the Family Education Centre
The ‘Saugeen Turbine Operation Policy’, or STOP, organized the rally on Monday at Gobles Grove Beach, just meters from the turbine.
Spokesperson, Greg Schmalz, tells Bayshore Broadcasting News not only were they protesting the location of the turbine, but they were also trying to set a Guinness World Record.
Protestors were used to form the letter “H” as part of the word “Help.”
Unfortunately, they won’t know about the record for some time.
Schmalz tells us they’re calling for help to rid the area of the turbine until more definitive health tests are done on the effects of the structures.
Besides locals, visitors from Grand Bend, Goderich and the group ‘Mothers Against Wind Turbines from the West Lincoln/Haldiman area took part.
‘Mothers Against Wind Turbines’ spokesperson, Marianne Kidd, says her group brought a busload of people to take part.
Kidd says it’s all about the children and protecting them from the harmful “emissions” of the industrial turbines.
Several wind farms are going up in her region.
Visitors from Grand Bend and Goderich also took part because, according to them, public protest was all the provincial government had left citizens dealing with the placement of the turbines.
Protestors also complained about the health and noise effects of the structures.
