Hundreds object to wind turbines plan

More than 900 letters of objection have been sent to Bedford Borough Council over a proposed wind farm.
A report published on the council’s website last month, shows that 922 letters of opposition were received from 802 addresses near to the planned development at Nun Wood, close to Harrold.
Npower Renewable plans to build 12 wind turbines at 410ft high each but residents have campaigned against the energy giant’s proposals. Brian Skittral, 54, who is chairman of Bozeat and Lavendon Oppose the Turbines (BLOT), said: “This is the wrong site for a wind farm.
“The area where they are trying to build is an area of great landscape value.
“It is a place that people want to stay how it is and is often used by walkers who enjoy the scenery.” The site of the farm involves three separate planning authorities – Bedford Borough Council, Wellingborough Borough Council and Milton Keynes Council – with a planning meeting arranged for February.
A spokesman for Bedford Borough Council said: “Officers are currently working on a report for the planning committee which will recommend a position to be taken on the application.
“It would be inappropriate to comment before that report is published.
“Furthermore, the council expects the Planning Inspectorate to hold a public inquiry into the proposed wind farm during 2011.” Npower claims that, if constructed, the scheme would meet the average annual electricity needs of between 13,700 and 15,600 homes.
