ROANOKE CO. – A business group says it wants an independent assessment of the plan for a wind farm on Poor Mountain in Roanoke County.
An e-mail from the Southwest Virginia Business Development Association on Monday, claims the group will commission an “an independent study of the advantages and disadvantages of this specific proposal, in this place, at this time.“
The group says it is, “concerned about the lack of specifics and substance of the examination of the proposal to build a wind farm on Poor Mountain.“
The group also claims the discussion and process, “has been largely politicized and the information from both the pro and opposition standpoint has been from parties that stand to benefit from their stance on the proposal.“
The Southwest Virginia Business Development Association claims to be pro-business, and in favor of “smart, meaningful development that adds to the character of our valley and produces significant opportunities.“
The Association’s President is opposed to the wind farm project, due to the impact on flight paths at Roanoke Regional Airport. The group says he has not been involved in the commission of the study.
