Legislative Roundup: Wind turbines

The House approved Senate Bill 90, which would have the Office of Energy and Planning study the criteria and all other procedures for siting wind-powered electric generators and other issues with the Site Evaluation Commission.

The study would need to be completed by Dec. 31 so lawmakers could act on recommendations next session.

Originally sponsors wanted a moratorium on projects before the Site Evaluation Committee as a way to halt a number of wind turbine projects and the Northern Pass high-voltage energy transmission project.

The Senate will need to decide if it wants to negotiate a compromise or agree to House changes.
