Campaigners vow to fight windfarm

Campaigners have vowed to fight plans to build a windfarm near Wardle every step of the way.
Renewable energy firm Coronation Power has this week submitted a planning application to build 12 125m-high turbines at Crook Hill on the moors above Littleborough.
But the Friends of The South Pennines are to object, claiming the farm will blight the moors landscape.
Spokesman Chris Edwards said: “Members of our group are now busy scrutinising every aspect of the submission in advance of having discussions with the councils and Coronation Power.
“We will be creating a formal document which will outline all our objections in detail, which we will be submitting to the planning departments in due course.”
“We would also encourage anyone else who is concerned by these plans to write with their objections to their planning department.”
Coronation Power hopes to erect seven turbines in Rochdale and five just over the border in Rossendale.
Access to the site would be along Calderbrook Road near St James’s Church.
The firm estimates an average of 13 vehicles per day would use the route, although this could rise to 55 at busy times.
At some points lamp posts and street signs may have to be removed and the road could be widened to allow large machinery, including 45 metre-long turbine blades, to be transported.
Further planning permission would need to be sought for any changes.
Power generated by the turbines would then be connected to the national grid in either Littleborough or Whitworth.
