240ft turbine on Llyn would be alien say planners

A bid to erect a 240ft-high wind turbine in Llyn is being recommended for refusal by planners who said it was “alien and inappropriate”.
The proposed site is 500 metres to the north of the A497 at Bodvel Hall, Llannor, near Pwllheli, Gwynedd, just a stone’s throw from the Lln Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It’s also within the boundaries of the Llyn and Bardsey Island Landscape of Outstanding Historic Interest.
Applicants London-based Windberry Energy Operations Ltd want to build a 800kw wind turbine measuring 74m to the tip of three blades.
They also want to create tracks and a building.
Llannor and Buan councils have recommended the bid be refused for visual reasons, the impact on wildlife, tourism and noise as well as the mast size being too high.
Welsh monuments body Cadw said the turbine would be within 5km of a number of monuments.
It would also be near Boduan and Plas Bodegroes historic parks and gardens, which are included on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens in Wales.
Gwynedd Archaeological Trust said the area is of historic interest.
Natural Resources Wales said the impact on the natural beauty would be substantial and the development “inappropriate”.
A 105 letters of objection were received.
The application will be discussed by members of Gwynedd council planning committee on Monday.
Planners are recommending that it should be refused because it would be “alien and inappropriate to its sensitive location, creating an unacceptable feature”.
