Angry residents looking for answers

Residents are demanding answers over proposals to build a wind turbine in Larkhall as reported in the Advertiser over three years ago.
Applicant Branna Industrial and Technical Services Ltd, Motherwell, lodged detailed plans with South Lanarkshire Council to build a wind turbine at the north of the Rosti factory off Middleton Avenue in Strutherhill Industrial Estate.
In December 2010, an amended planning application to increase the size of the wind turbine from 305ft to 360ft, for safety reasons were cited for the change.
The wind turbine, which will be decomissioned after 25 years, will be used by the adjoining Rosti factory who have been in Larkhall since 1991 and employ 250 people there. They produce plastic-injection moulded parts for companies such as Jaguar, Volvo, Toyota and OKi.
By installing the wind turbine, Rosti would be able to generate much of their own electricity, saving about 68 per cent of present costs. This would help secure the current level of operations in Larkhall.
Rosti are part of the Danish AP Moller-Maersk Group and employ 110,000 people in 125 countries.
In 2009, Barry Coughlan, managing director (UK) Rosti TechnicalPlastics, said they were looking into having a percentage of electricity supplied from a turbine to help improve their competitiveness and meet their environmental strategy.
