Laslett Wind Farm plans abandoned

Acciona Energy remains determined to continue with the development of the controversial Allendale Wind Farm despite strong opposition from adjoining landowners, but has confirmed that another wind farm near Mount Schank would not go ahead.
A spokesperson for the wind farm developer said Acciona was working through a new planning permit application for the Allendale Wind Farm for submission to Grant District Council.
However, the spokesperson said the Laslett Wind Farm, which Acciona considered developing five years ago, was “dead”.
“In 2007, Acciona Energy submitted a referral under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act for the proposed Laslett Wind Farm,” the spokesperson said.
“Acciona received environmental approval under the EPBC Act for Laslett, but we decided soon thereafter not to take investigations further – no wind farm was planned, no development application was lodged.”
Plans were to develop the Laslett Wind Farm with 50 turbines on three properties between Sisters, Doman, Swaffers and Mount Salt roads.
Grant councillor Alan Hill asked for council to provide an update on the Laslett Wind Farm during a council meeting last week, saying he did not want “any surprises” after it was recently announced that the Green Point Wind Farm near Piccaninnie Ponds would go ahead.
“We need to know if the Laslett Wind Farm has lapsed, or if there is something that could come out of the woodwork,” he said.
“I don’t want any surprises like the Green Point Wind Farm.”
Council passed a motion to also confirm if there were any other planning approvals pending for wind farms within the Grant council area.
