Wind turbine concerns shared at meeting

As the possibility of industrial wind turbines moving into the area increases, residents are expressing their concerns at neighbourhood meetings.
One such meeting was held the night of Nov. 16, which was attended by approximately 100 people, according to meeting chair and local farmer Ralph Coneybeare. Coneybeare said the meeting was arranged by residents Robert and Marjorie Elg, and the majority of people in attendance were from the North Mornington area.
“The general consensus of the night was that people weren’t in favour of them,” Coneybeare said. “There were a lot of questions raised.”
Coneybeare said a committee has been formed to express concerns about wind turbine proposals, but said there are people on the committee who are in favour of wind turbines as a potential source of income.
“We don’t want to be labeled as an anti-wind turbine committee,” Coneybeare said. “We’re just trying to inform people of what’s happening or not happening.”
The meeting came amid news that 23 locations for large wind turbines were being sought between Perth Line 86, Hwy. 23, Dorking and Line 72.
“There are some people that have signed up already, there’s no doubt about that,” Coneybeare said. “There are people on both sides of the fence on this thing.” … Please read more in this weeks Listowel Banner
