Officials for British Petroleum announced Monday they plan to build a new wind farm that will be the largest in the state.
Governor Brownback was on hand as the energy company announced the farm would be located 43 miles southwest of Wichita in Sumner and Kingman counties. Officials say they plan to develop a 66,000 acre project.
Construction will begin soon and is scheduled to be completed by 2012. They say it will create 500 temporary construction jobs and 20 full time positions.
The new wind farm has a 25 year contract to provide energy with the electric cooperative and each county involved will split a one million dollar payment each of the 25 years.
