A wind turbine near Palmerston North has caught fire at one of Mercury’s wind farms.
Fire and Emergency were called to the fire at Tararua Wind Farm at about 2:40pm on Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Mercury’s contractor Vestas said it is too early to know what caused the fire, but confirmed no one was injured.
“Vestas can confirm that no people were near the turbine at the time of the incident, all employees have been accounted for, and there are no reported injuries.”
Vestas said all wind turbines have been paused in that area of the wind farm while an investigation is carried out to find the source of the blaze.
The 700-hectare wind farm has 134 wind turbines.
