National demonstration against industrial wind energy, 1 day to go

Source:  Collectif du 6 octobre | Action alerts, France

Here at last, the eve of action!

The meeting with the cabinet of Minister Borloo has been confirmed, and the 6 claims that the Collectif will present are available here as well as the on the Collectif’s blog.

If you can, print out copies for distribution.

    Media

A scheduled press conference has been organized on 6 Oct. at 13h30 in front of the environment Ministry.

The Collectif is hearing from and is already in contact with TF1, France 2, and France 3 for coverage Thursday and Friday …

The new press release is available here as well as on the Collectif’s blog.

National media – After the newspaper and radio, it’s television’s turn to treat the subject:

France 2, 4 Oct., Journaux Télévisées du 20h00: Report on the actual effectiveness of industrial wind energy:

Marc LeFranc, vice-president of the Fédération Environnement Durable and d’Oise-dans-le-Vent, indicated that the French projection of 13,500 MW of wind energy will reduce CO2 emissions only 0.3%.

André Antolini, president of the Renewable Energy Society (SER), indicated that the expected reduction has been scientifically shown to more than 10%! [Ed.: we would very much like to see those scientific calculations]

Jean-Marc Jancovic, well known consultant on energy and climate issues, explained that putting in wind turbines or not will change absolutely nothing in the problem of reducing CO2 emissions.

Jean Jouzel, famous climatogist, introduced a new idea: If industrial wind energy is not effective today, it must count on future technological improvements to solve intermittency problems – it’s a bet on the future. [Ed.: it is easy to make such bets with the millions of euros of public money while destroying our natural and cultural heritage]

During the broadcast of this report there were many moments to bring up our demonstration and our presenting of claims to the Environment Minister.

    Checkpoints

At the day minus 1, the Collectif du 6 Octobre includes 142 local groups, 4 national federations, and 1 national association.

Les Vieilles Maison Françaises has joined the Collectif.

Invited by the Collectif, the Fédération Vent de Colère called on all of their groups to make every effort possible to participate in the demonstration on 6 Oct.

    Map of the route

Change in the weather report for Saturday, 6 Oct., in Paris: Superb afternoon sun, 19°C at 15h00, and a light northeast wind.

The Paris Police have given us authorization to park for free all of our vehicles at place Vauban at the avenue de Ségur end.

The new route map is available here as well as on the Collectif’s blog.

    Mayors

Having received letters from several mayors to the Collectif, we ask them to march together in their regalia.

With the Collectif representing the villages that demonstrate in Paris, the official presence of the mayors will reinforce the message.

The delegation from the Collectif sent to the Environment Ministry will include one representative mayor. Thank you for informing your mayors who are batting on your side to stop the heresy of industrial wind energy.

    International

Testimonials are multiplying – take a look on the blog to see the incredible post of support that came to us from Puerto Rico, after several poignant messages (translated on the run). [Ed.2: see the powerful flyers from Puerto Rico here at National Wind Watch]

Germany, from Ferdinant Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Bartenstein, president of the Bundesverband Landschaftsschutz (Federal Association for Landscape Protection):

Dear wind industry opponents, dear protectors of the French countryside!

The catastrophe that has occurred in Germany with the destruction of entire regions by giant wind turbine parks and single wind turbines (but no less intrusive) must not be repeated in France and other European countries.

20,000 giant wind turbines, the only turn from time to time, have already partially destroyed particularly beautiful areas – especially on the coasts and in the mountains – without bringing any measurable advantage.

The French countryside is too precious to sacrifice to an ineffective form of energy. It is the heritage of a population, from whom nobody has the right to take away an environment known for generations.

Send all of your politicians and wind energy profiteers to Germany! We will show them what the wind energy parks bring: destroyed countryside, people who can’t sell their houses, divided communities, endless legal processes, and people who have lost confidence in politics.

    With best wishes and solidarity.

    Switzerland, from Hazel Macmillan:

    Beautiful France,

You have my strong support for protesting against the folly of wind energy. It has become a monster. Your efforts must be recognized and rewarded. Stay strong in your efforts. The crimes of the promoters and their blind supporters have been committed at a new level.

I will be with in my thoughts on 6 Oct., along with many here in the mountains of Switzerland where we are facing so much environmental destruction of our wild lands, our inland seas, our coasts, our peatlands, and our horizons.

    USA, from Robert Lucas:

Thank you for rising up with the support of rural dwellers everywhere. This demonstration will be followed by all of us here in the United States who have been the prey of the industrial organizations and their offers to transform the land to a giant game of pins. Once again the French people show the world the true way of patriotism.

Long live France! Long live the earth!

Down with the eco-thieves who want to profit from the good will of all humanity.

    Tomorrow in Paris !
