Plans for a new wind farm in the area have been given the go ahead by the council’s planning committee.

The Greenburn wind farm was approved by the council on Friday, September 25 despite a recommendation to object to the plans. It will contain 16 turbines.

The wind farm will be approximately four kilometres west of New Cumnock and three kilometres south of Cumnock and will be accessed via Glaisnock Road.

David McDowall, interim Head of Planning & Economic Development, said the recommendation was that the council lodge an objection to the application with the Scottish Ministers, given the impacts that the size, scale, design and location of the turbines would have.

However, the Planning Committee, by majority, disagreed and concluded that the proposed development would not result in unacceptable landscape and visual impacts and cumulative

landscape and visual impacts.”

Melvyn McKeown, Project Manager, REG Greenburn Ltd said: “We welcome the decision to raise no objection to our Greenburn proposals.

“This decision underlines the council’s support for the green recovery and local jobs.”
