Woodford County makes plans for coming wind farms

EUREKA – While a wind farm developer works on plans to locate new wind farms in the county, the Woodford County Board is taking steps to see that any construction damage to roads is repaired.

On Feb. 18, the board approved three special-use permits for Woodford Wind Energy LLC to install meteorological towers to gather wind and atmospheric data for wind energy development projects in Clayton Township near Minonk, Panola Township near El Paso and Greene Township near Roanoke.

Permitting the towers is one of the beginning steps to eventually build wind farms in those locations. Developer Chris Green of Tri-Global Energy told the county’s Road and Bridge Committee his company would like to apply for special-use permits siting the wind farms by the end of April.

“We have some land agreements in place,” Green said. “We are working on finalizing the layout.”

According to the county’s zoning code, the company will need road agreements in place with the county and townships before applications can be submitted.

Green said if siting is completed and special-use permits are issued in April, the company tentatively plans to start construction in the spring of 2021. However, he also said construction could be delayed until 2022.
