Commissioners handle urgent matter in special meeting

The commissioners also approved a request from NextEra Energy Resources on behalf of Peetz Table Wind and Northern Colorado Wind for conditional use permits for temporary meterological towers on five parcels of land in northern Colorado. The MET towers, which will be around 263 feet tall, will be used to evaluate weather conditions for wind turbine installations in the Peetz area. NextEra is refurbishing 214 of the turbines in the Peetz area. All of the wind towers will receive new blades, hubs, variable pitch systems, bearings and main shafts, and gear box and oil coolers. In addition, some units will receive a generator refurbishment.

The Logan County Commissioners handled a relatively light agenda on Tuesday during their work session and business meeting.

The commissioners originaly weren’t scheduled to meet because Commissioners Jane Bauder and Byron Pelton were to attend the Colorado Counties Inc. winter conference in Colorado Springs. However, an urgent piece of business came up and, Bauder said, she wanted to return for the public meeting on flood plain maps scheduled for Tuesday evening anyway, so a special meeting was scheduled.

The commissioners approved the vacation of a 2018 subdivision for Thomas and Brenda Huss of Iliff so the property could be re-subdivided to enlarge the parcel to include a water well. The Husses’ sale of the property to their son for residential use was contingent on the re-subdivision, so the commissioners held a special meeting to accommodate the family.

Since they had to schedule a meeting anyway, the commissioners went ahead and dispatched some other housekeeping items including two contracts for the 2020 Logan County Fair and Rodeo. The commissioners approved a contract with stock contractor Cervi Championship Rodeofor the two-night PRCA Rodeo and one with Wagner’s Carnival, LLC. The fair next year is scheduled for July 30 through Aug. 9 with the carnival to open Aug. 5.
