Friends of Buchanan County kick off

Credit:  www.newspressnow.com ~~

The public is invited to learn more about Friends of Buchanan County at a campaign kick off 6:30-7:30 p.m.,Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Bessie Ellison Elementary School, 45 SE 85th Road, St. Joseph, MO 64507.

The newly formed citizen’s group is urging elected county officials to adopt zoning restrictions that would limit the harmful impact of industrial wind plants on St. Joseph and Buchanan County.

The Buchanan County Commission is considering a wind energy zoning ordinance that would allow 60-story wind turbines as close as two miles from the city limits of St. Joseph.

At the event, landowners and residents will explain their concerns, outline their recommendations, and offer information on how affected landowners can get involved.

Attendees can sign a petition urging elected county officials to adopt setback restrictions that will protect homes, schools, churches and businesses from the negative effects of placing 600-foot wind turbines in a highly productive agricultural area and densely populated county like Buchanan.
