OCEAN GATE – “Sirens blaring, there is the propeller, scary stuff,” Kathy Wise said in her social media post around 12:15 p.m. on Friday.

Wise was posting a video from in front of her son and fiancé’s house which is adjacent from one the borough’s two windmills. The windmills are used to generate power for the municipality.

Borough Patrolman Richard Zonin said both borough windmills have been shut down following the incident and the large white blade that flew off the one windmill and hit a tree has been removed.

“The blade was picked up by our Department of Public Works from the 900 block of Asbury Avenue,” Zonin said. “We are continuing our investigation and the company that made the windmill has been contacted and will be investigating what caused it to come off.”

The officer said no one was injured, there was only minor property damage regarding the tree. “It didn’t hit a home or anyone which is fortunate.”

Zonin said it was chilly and a little windy but could not say if weather had anything to do with the cause of the incident.
