Group eyes Owendale, Sebewaing area for wind farm

HURON COUNTY – A representative from Reserve Energy, LLC confirmed Tuesday the group is in the early stages of pursuing a wind farm in the Owendale-Sebewaing area.

“We’re very interested in the area,” said Joe Haas, president of Reserve Energy Exploration and member of Reserve Energy, LLC. “We’re pursuing a utility-scale wind farm.”

Currently, Reserve Energy, LLC – based in Chagrin Falls, Ohio – is contacting land owners in the Owendale-Sebewaing area in efforts to sign land leases for a wind farm, Haas said.

He said because of existing competition he couldn’t confirm how much land is leased.

Haas said Reserve Energy, LLC more than likely will release more information sometime after the beginning of next year.

“We’re at a sensitive stage,” he said. “We don’t want to let the competition know what we’re doing.”

Brookfield Township Supervisor A. Charles Timmons confirmed he’s met with representatives from Reserve Energy, LLC, adding some representatives were present during the township’s Dec. 10 meeting.

Fairhaven Township Supervisor Orin Engelhardt also said he’s aware of Reserve Energy’s interest in the area, though he’s never had any official contact with any of the group’s representatives.

“They contacted a lot of people around here, but I never heard anything,” he said.

Sebewaing Township Supervisor Willet Oeschger said a number of people in the area have received letters from Reserve Energy.

He said he talked to some Reserve Energy representatives who plan to attend the township’s Jan. 8 meeting (which begins at 7:30 a.m.).
