Plans are lodged for new £7.5m windfarm

A planning application for a new windfarm at Flimby has been lodged with Allerdale Council.
Flimby Wind Energy Ltd wants to build three wind turbines on land at Flimby Hall Farm.
The company, which is part of West Coast Energy Limited, has been set up to develop the windfarm.
They say they expect it to generate enough electricity to power 4,193 homes.
The company is also proposing a Community Trust Fund to support local social, educational and environmental initiatives. They will discuss plans with the local parish councils and Allerdale council.
Samantha Crosby, planning and development manager for West Coast Energy, said: “Environmental and technical considerations have played a key role in the design of the windfarm.
“The final layout has been developed through a process of formal environmental assessment, which has included surveys and evaluations by independent consultants as well as consultations with Allerdale Council and statutory and non-statutory bodies.
“The long-term objective of this windfarm is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, widely recognised as the primary cause of global warming which is considered to be the most serious problem facing the world today.”
If plans were approved it would take five months to build the turbines at a cost of £7.5m.
The proposal comes after a surge of applications in west Cumbria.
Two more are planned for the Solway Plain. Five turbines are planned for Warwick Hall Farm, south of Westnewton. It has received 1,712 letters of objection and four of support.
Near Silloth 1,080 people have objected to four turbines planned for Hellrigg, known as Park Head Farm.
There have been no applications but public exhibitions held for Tallentire Hill and Dearham, and an appeal has been lodged after Allerdale Council refused an application for Brownrigg Hall, near Allonby.
