Fairhaven wind project poised to get turbines

After a prolonged wait, the Fairhaven wind project and developer CCI Energy are poised to secure two turbines.
The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, which owns the two turbines, is expected to sell them to CCI Energy for the Fairhaven project.
CCI Energy “are the only ones that we’re really in discussions with at this point because that project seems well-positioned,” said Nils Bolgen, program manager of MTC’S Clean Energy program.
However, no agreement has been signed, according to Mr. Bolgen, and the decision is not yet final.
James Sweeney, president of CCI Energy, said that although his company is well-positioned with the MTC, he is continuing to pursue alternative sources for the turbines.
“If we don’t have an answer soon, we will go to a backup plan,” he said.
The finances of the purchase also are being worked out.
“We’d prefer to use their turbines because we can get the project going faster,” Mr. Sweeney said.
“But if the deal isn’t that great, we might be better off buying somebody else’s turbines.”
In addition to securing the turbines, CCI Energy has a few more hurdles to clear with the town, according to Jeffrey Osuch, the town’s executive secretary.
CCI Energy is doing a wetlands survey, and a report on it is expected to be submitted to the town’s Conservation Commission for review by the beginning of January, Mr. Osuch said.
The project also has to go before the Planning Board, according to Mr. Osuch, but both reviews are expected to go smoothly.
