Take close look at wind turbines

An editorial letter recently published from one of EDP’s proponents insinuated that surely people in Douglas County were well informed of that entity’s intent to construct industrial wind turbines as far back as 2008.

I would contend that many typically well-informed, actively engaged people in our community were caught by surprise that EDP had planted roots without their intent being revealed to the broader public until the company had invested significant potential financial agreements among key players in the county.

I certainly understand why folks, from the Douglas County Board level to the individual landowner, would be enticed to accept such agreement for the sake of the dollars involved, especially with an industry claiming to promote clean energy with no negative impact upon its environmental footprint.

However, there is ample evidence that wind turbines do indeed have negative environmental impacts upon those who live in their vicinity, and some of those impacts are indeed frightening.

From what I’ve seen, the greater bank of information given to the folks in our county has been promulgated by those working for the wind industry, and the research and evidence that countermands that information has been given short shrift.

There is ample evidence available to demonstrate that a great more consideration should be given to this project before any permit is allowed to be issued.

Let us hope that those making decisions for the future of our greater Douglas County community be judicious and cautious in their investigations of this issue before moving forward.
