nion Township voters will be asked Tuesday should the Township Board adopt an ordinance to create a planning commission pursuant to the Michigan Planning Enabling Act of 2008.
The question is being put to voters in light of the debate over wind turbines in northwest Branch County.
DTE Energy site manager Jeff Haines told the Branch County Board of Commissioners earlier in July they were in the early stages in Union, Sherwood, Matteson and Batavia Townships of developing a wind turbine project.
Proposed wind turbines have been strongly opposed by a local group called Concerned Citizens of Branch County.
Right now, any decisions on zoning ordinances to govern the impact of wind turbines lies with the various township boards.
