Anti-turbine fundraiser Thursday

The Penn Forest Chapter of SOAR, Save Our Allegheny Ridges, will be holding a community meeting and fundraising event from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Penn Forest No. 2 Firehouse in Albrightsville.

“The purpose of the meeting is to inform residents of the status of applications one and two, where we stand regarding fundraising for legal fees, and to give residents an opportunity to ask questions,” said Bill Mauro.

SOAR was formed in opposition to wind turbine projects in Pennsylvania. The Penn Forest Chapter is standing in opposition to the Atlantic Wind project that is currently before the local zoning hearing board.

Atlantic Wind seeks to build up to 28 wind turbines on property it leases from the Bethlehem Water Authority in its current application. A previous application, for a larger number of turbines, before the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas, has been deemed approved. The opposition is trying to overturn that approval.

The flier for the meeting notes that from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30, donations to SOAR up to $5,000 will be matched.

Donations can be made via PayPal at www.SaveOurAlleghenyRidges.org or online at gofundme.com/24c8unmp or by check made out to SOAR and mailed to Save Our Allegheny Ridges, P.O. Box 178, Everett, PA 15337, make sure to write Penn Forest Township in the memo line.

The next zoning hearing board meeting is planned for 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Penn Forest Twp. Fire Co. No.1.
