The weather continues to be a topic of conversation, with rain, thunderstorms and cooler temps. A casualty of the lightning strikes was a wind tower on Meredith Kellen’s land five miles north of Woodstock. One blade was completely torn off and landed a short way from the tower; another was burned in the shape of a horse shoe, left hanging from the turbine. The third one is still intact.
Another inconvenience was noticed on Sunday morning as the wind tower project included having to move the very heavy equipment across the road. This process took awhile as railroad ties and lots of gravel needed to be placed on the crossing to protect the road bed. Because of this, roads were closed for a time before the process was completed.
My son, Daryl, spent a couple days with me last week visiting his friends and family.
Gloria Powers continues to enjoy retirement by traveling with daughter Roechelle to Atlanta on the 13th to see her daughter, Megan, and family. They had the opportunity to watch her grandchildren participate in their sports of football –– Jack played in two games, Isaac in one, and Callie cheered on her team as a cheerleader. An interesting sideline, is that they met and visited Brad Johnson, a former quarterback with the Vikings, who now is one of the coaches on Jack’s team.
This past weekend, Mary and Bill Prinsen from the Cities spent the weekend with Mike and Gloria.
Nine Biever cousins met on Sunday at the Stonehouse in Pipestone for their annual get-together. They are the children of Earl and Ray Biever. Earl’s family included Gwen and Gary, Janet, and Jim and Jan. Ray’s family were Ray and Karen, Vonnie Willouby, from Cushing, Minn., and Judy Lickness from Worthington. Laughs, conversation and good food made for a very casual afternoon.
Dick and Karen Janssen, Shorewood, Ore., arrived at Ed and Kathy’s for a few days’ visit. On Tuesday, Ed and Kathy, Dick and Karen, Randy and Nancy Janssen from Woodstock and Sandi Fitzsimonds, Mankato, were guests of Mark Clifford and Mary Schmidt in Milford, Iowa. They took in the Car Museum in Milford, a car enthusiast’s dream tour, an excellent display, worth every minute spent at the Museum. All returned home that evening. The Oregon guests, Dick and Karen, left on Friday for Minneapolis to spend a few days with their son, returning to Oregon Monday night.
