Board of Adjustment meeting regarding wind turbines is July 3

Madison County’s Board of Adjustment will meet on Tuesday, July 3, at 7 p.m. At that meeting, the Board of Adjustment will consider re-opening the previous public hearing on the wind farm project, to allow additional information to be submitted to the board.
According to Environmental Health and Zoning Administrator Jeff Nicholl, his office had received multiple questions about what information could be provided to the board members regarding the proposed wind farm project that was discussed and then tabled at the April 3 meeting. County Supervisors have also been inundated with public comments, both for and against the proposed 52 turbines targeted to go in south of the Earlham area. Mid-American Energy had asked the board of adjustment for a variance at the April 3 meeting, but the issue was tabled for 90 days to allow board members more time to consider the proposal.
According to Nicholl, if the board chooses to re-open the public hearing, there will be an opportunity for the submission of additional and new information to the board. Members of the public who spoke at the previous public hearing will be limited to presenting new or different information. Anyone, including those who have already spoken to the board in the previous public hearing, may submit written information, studies and opinion letters to the board prior to the July 3, 2018, meeting by sending it to Nicholl at jnicholl@madisoncoia.us.
The turbines proposed would be located mostly in Penn Township, but also in small sections of Madison and Jackson townships. They would be slightly taller and larger than those located in the Macksburg area.
The hub height is designed to be 312 feet in height, with a combined rotor diameter of 361 feet.
