Blown away by Mr. Wind

Pro-wind or no-wind? At this point, we cannot drive through our county, hop on social media or read the paper without hearing a testimony. Unless you live under a rock, chances are you have made up your mind on your stance and there is little anyone can do to steer your opinion one way or another. As for me and my house, we do not support this project and there’s nothing anyone can do to convince us otherwise.

As for those who have a personal stake in this project, of course they would be pro-wind. I do not shame the landowners, local politicians or school support. Their education was from one source who threw dollar signs and pumped information in a very quiet and subtle way.

The rest of us spent our mornings on the back porch of our simple, quiet dream with no idea in the world it would soon change. And as information, education and the momentum has spread, I’m sure some of those landowners feel backed in a corner. I sympathize with that. If, at the end of the day, those who will profit personally hold their stance, I still do not blame, hate, shame or have any ill will towards anyone. I completely understand that stance. My ill is with the wind companies (Mr. Wind).

Shame on you, Mr. Wind, for tearing apart my county. On any given country road our neighbors now drive by without a wave, friends have grown to hate and families no longer speak.

Shame on you, Mr. Wind, for hiding behind our very own tax dollars to pitch and promote a false money-saving tactic.

Shame on you, Mr. Wind, for taking subsidies and loopholes with no ability to stand on your own.

Shame on you, Mr. Wind, for preaching green and clean, while you manufacture your high voltage electrical devices in your factories to be taller and heavier, weighing hundreds of tons with steel and aluminum and concrete and more.

Shame on you, Mr. Wind, for the false promise on what you will produce. Sprinkle our countryside with each turbine closer and taller than the one before and you still cannot compare or compete. Shame on you for giving our town the hit with no energy benefit but rather a generational cost to transfer and commute.

Shame on your deceitful monetary promises to our schools and towns without honest explanations. Do you think anyone will ever vote for another tax levy for our schools again if these projects arise? Say it isn’t true that you point your targets toward lower income and poorly educated communities. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10).

Shame on you, Mr. Wind. Shame on you. You have torn apart my paradise. I hope you can sleep at night.

Danette Martin,

Attica
