Wind turbine needs $13,000 repair

The Archbold School District wind turbine should be generating electricity again late next week after a $13,225 repair.

Aaron Rex, superintendent, said bearings in the turbine generator need to be replaced. The repair is not under warranty.

The $13,225 figure includes parts and labor, Rex said.

Glynn Electric, of Plymouth, Mass., is owned by one of the partners at Aeronautica, also of Plymouth. Aeronautica manufactured the wind turbine.

Glynn is the company servicing the turbine.

School officials first became aware of the problem on or about May 18, when Glynn technicians were in Archbold performing an inspection, Rex said.

Repairs are scheduled for next week.

“We have the money in the turbine savings account designated for this repair, and even though we do not like to have these large expenses for repairs, we have more than sufficient funds,” Rex said.

The turbine went into operation in 2013. Between then and July 2017, district officials said the turbine generated more than $297,000 in savings on the district’s electricity bills.
