State board grants extension to build two phases of wind farm

The Ohio Power Siting Board voted today to approve a one-year extension for two phases of a proposed wind farm in Champaign County until May, 2019.

The project’s developers had argued the extensions were needed because litigation by opponents had delayed construction.

Attorneys representing Champaign County and Goshen Twp. had asked the state to oppose the extension. The county and township argued the developers have had opportunities to begin construction in recent years but have not done so. Instead, they argue, the developers have sought to make changes to the projects and are now seeking an extension just two months before they are set to expire.

In their decision today, members of the OPSB argued the project’s developers, “have demonstrated that litigation both at the Supreme Court of Ohio and the United States Court of Appeals have created significant delays in (developers’) commencement of construction on these projects.”
