Paint Township to hear public opinion on wind turbine ordinance

The Paint Township supervisors scheduled a community meeting for March 3 to discuss a proposed wind turbine ordinance.
The meeting will follow the supervisors’ public meeting at 3:30 p.m.
Residents are welcome to go to the township building before the meeting to review the ordinance.
Secretary Wendy Senior was unable to say how long after the meeting the supervisors may pass the ordinance. There may be changes to the ordinance after the meeting, and it must be advertised before it’s enacted.
The supervisors first started exploring a wind ordinance after Chicago energy company Invenergy approached Ogle and Shade township officials about studying Shaffer Mountain for wind turbine locations.
During a previous township meeting, Invenergy spokesman Jarrod Horter said the company has no plans to erect wind turbines in the township.
In a previous interview, township Supervisor Lewis Clark II said Paint Township used Adams Township’s wind turbine ordinance as a guide to draft its own. He said the ordinance may also include guidelines on natural gas drilling.
The township also welcomed a new supervisor: Joanne Wright. She was elected in November. Dave Blough did not seek re-election.
David Zeglin is the third supervisor.
Wright, 67, of Paint Township, was formerly the township’s tax collector for 10 years. She said she has lived in Paint Township for more than 40 years and lived in Ferndale previous to that.
She is married with one daughter, Olivia Bragdon.
Before becoming tax collector, Wright worked in the banking industry for more than 30 years.
“When I was tax collector, I would see the bad times and I liked coming to meetings,” she said. “Then I saw how different people handle the different situations.”
“This time I was waiting for a Superman-type person to rise up and run, but when it didn’t happen, I decided to give it a shot,” she added. “I want to make sure the township keeps moving in the right direction and do the best for the community.”
