Wind farms leave much to be desired

There is increasing concern that energy generation from fossil fuels contributes to climate change and air pollution. In response, governments around the world are encouraging the installation of renewable green energy projects like industrial wind turbines.
Today we have hundreds of these projects stretching across the country, a far greater number of wind farms than we had a decade ago. A few years ago, the SJ-R featured an article about wind farms and their detrimental effects to wildlife, such as the unintended consequence of killing birds as they fly into turbines, particularly during migration.
Recently, the SJ-R featured the Gatehouse Media investigation series which shed light on multiple complaints from people who live or work in close proximity to wind farms. They experience a host of symptoms ranging from sickness, nausea, tinnitus and stress to sleep disturbance, depression and even cognitive dysfunction. These symptoms are apparently caused by a combination of wind turbine noise, vibrations and shadow flicker. Similar medical complaints also have been reported from Canadian wind farms.
This becomes a serious health issue, and more acute as industrial turbines are being placed in close proximity to family homes in order to have access to transmission infrastructure. Yet, some of energy companies dismiss these credible medical complaints as “all bias and not based on facts or science.” Finally, wind farms create divided communities on the side.
Our current wind farms leave much to be desired. We can’t help voice our concerns for human sufferings, let alone a serious threat to ecosystems.
