Ramblers back fight against windfarms

The director of the Scottish Ramblers’ Association has criticised proposals for two windfarms in north east Fife.
A planning application has been submitted for a five-turbine windfarm in Auchtermuchty, while a larger 13-turbine project is planned for Ceres – both by German-based firm EnergieKontor.
Local opposition has been widespread for both, citing the same grievances as the Ramblers – that they are proposed in the wrong place and would diminish the area’s landscape.
Dave Morris, director of the Milnathort-based organisation, said that while Ramblers didn’t object to wind energy per se, applications for large turbines in rural settings were “outrageous”.
Not only did they destroy the countryside Scotland is famous for, he argued, but developers were encouraged by the Scottish Executive’s approach.
“Almost all turbines built today are over 100 metres tall, and they will only get bigger,” he said.
“We think they should be built in places like Grangemouth or Mossmorran – where tall buildings already dominate the landscape.
“Communities have to fight this – I don’t think they appreciate just how large these monstrous turbines are. They will destroy Scottish landscape.”
