Commissioners update wind farm rules; companies considering related projects

The Jasper County Commissioners made an amendment to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance for Wind Farm Overlay during their monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 4. Since that time, representatives of several businesses which establish wind farms have been able to confirm that their companies are at least considering the possibility of establishing a new wind farm in the county

Jasper County already has an ordinance allowing wind farms, if they meet certain criteria. The amendments on Dec. 4 were an update to that ordinance criteria. A main factor that was updated was the local rule about the height of a wind farm in the area.

“So it reflects current technology in wind energy,” said Commissioner Kendell Culp. “…The old one said 350 feet was the maximum height. Some of these towers today are 500 feet.” Read the full story in the print edition or by subscribing to the e-edition.
