Small window to complain about after-hours construction

Members of Water Wells First (WWF) are concerned their voices won’t be heard after seeing an ad for input on a noise bylaw exemption for the North Kent 1 Wind Farm.
The ad put in local papers by the municipal Building Development Services asks for input from citizens about allowing the wind farm company construction team to get a noise bylaw exemption so they can continue to pour foundations and erect turbines during the night, on Sundays and on holidays from Dec. 1 to March 31.
The problem, according to WWF members, is that the ad was not put in papers until the week of Nov. 27, giving people a very small window to respond.
Yvonne Laevens, a resident in North Kent and WWF member, said she called the municipality and was told that the date was Dec. 1 but people could continue to submit any objections for the next week.
“That’s all well and good, but how are people reading the ad supposed to know that?” Laevens asked.
She said she and other members have called their local councillors and Laevens attempted to get on the agenda of Monday’s council meeting but was told she couldn’t because the matter was not on council’s agenda.
The group feels allowing the company that they allege is wrecking their well water to make more noise during the night and holidays only adds insult to injury.
Laevens said she planned to speak with Paul Lacina, director of Building Development Services directly to get answers as to why the deadline was so short.
